Is the Amscot Prepaid MasterCard a credit card? [back to top]

No. The Amscot Prepaid MasterCard is a prepaid MasterCard card with a spending limit equal to the amount of money you load on the card. Each time the card is used, the purchase or withdrawal amount is deducted from the available balance.

The Amscot Prepaid MasterCard can be used to make purchases everywhere Debit MasterCard is accepted and at more than one million ATM's worldwide.

Where can I get the Amscot Prepaid MasterCard? [back to top]

The Amscot Prepaid MasterCard is available exclusively at all Amscot locations. You will be given a temporary card to use until your permanent card arrives. This will usually take seven to ten days.

How do I load money onto my Amscot Prepaid MasterCard? [back to top]

You can go to any Amscot location to load money onto your Amscot Prepaid MasterCard. Load funds via Western Union® or if your employer offers direct deposit, you can elect to have your paycheck direct deposited onto your Amscot Prepaid MasterCard.

You can visit our Website at www.amscotcard.net and login to your card account and print a direct deposit form or call 1.866.532.9623 and follow the prompts to obtain your routing number and account number. Provide this information to your payroll administrator.

Is there a limit as to how much value the Amscot Prepaid MasterCard can have? [back to top]

Yes. You're not required to maintain a minimum balance on the card. However there is a minimum load amount of $10 and keep in mind your Monthly Maintenance Fee of $3.95.

How much does the Amscot Prepaid MasterCard cost? [back to top]

The Amscot Prepaid MasterCard costs $9.95. This includes the temporary card and the Amscot Prepaid MasterCard, embossed with your name, and carrying the MasterCard Brand Mark. For additional usage fees please see the Terms and Conditions.

Will I receive a statement? [back to top]

You will not receive a statement by mail, unless you request one. You will be able to view all of your balance and transaction information for free on the web at www.amscotcard.net. You will also be able to review your transactions via phone by calling Cardholder Services at 1.866.532.9623, for a fee of $0.50 per call. If you would like a paper statement, you can request one from Cardholder Services, by calling 1.866.532.9623, or by visiting www.amscotcard.net. There is a fee of $1.50 for a paper statement.

What happens if I need to return an item purchased with my Amscot Prepaid MasterCard? [back to top]

Each merchant location has its own return policies and will handle the returns in the same manner as any other MasterCard card transaction. They may credit your Amscot Prepaid MasterCard, provide a cash refund, or a store credit.

What if a purchase is denied? [back to top]

The card's available balance is probably less than the purchase amount. You may inform the merchant of the remaining balance on the card and use another form of payment to pay the difference, subject to the policy of the merchant. Also, please be aware that use of the Amscot Prepaid MasterCard at some merchants—for example, restaurants, rental car agencies, and Hotels mail-order companies, and cruise lines—requires the card have an available balance greater than the purchase amount to ensure sufficient funds for tips or incidental expenses. Use of the card at automated fuel dispensers requires a minimum balance of $75 – $100. However, only the actual amount spent will be deducted from the card.

Yes. It expires 48 months from the purchase date, as indicated on the front of the card.

What happens if my Amscot Prepaid MasterCard is lost or stolen? [back to top]

The Amscot Prepaid MasterCard provides 24-hour toll-free automated support. Immediately report any problems or a lost or stolen card by calling 1.866.532.9623. A replacement card will be issued and any available balance will be transferred to the new card. A $9.95 replacement card fee will be deducted from the card's available balance. We also provide a priority shipping option should you need your card expedited.

Can the card ever have a negative balance? [back to top]

Any authorization request that is greater than the card's available balance will be declined. However, there can be times when a MasterCard card merchant puts an item through without prior authorization. If an overdraft occurs, the card recipient will be required to make a payment to cardholder services to cover the negative amount.

What is Bill Pay? [back to top]

Bill Pay is Amscot's automated payment service. With Bill Pay, you can send a one-time or recurring electronic payment to thousands of billers listed in our database, or send a paper check to anyone. Since the payment amount is immediately deducted from your available balance, you will never incur a bounced check fee.

How do I use Bill Pay? [back to top]

You can access Bill Pay to set up billers, send payments and view your transaction history via your card account online or over the phone using our toll-free card account information line.

Whom can I pay using Bill Pay? [back to top]

Unlike most electronic bill pay programs, you can pay anyone using Bill Pay. If the person you want to send a payment to is not listed in our biller database, we will send them a paper check on your behalf.

Can I send checks using Bill Pay? [back to top]

Yes, you can. Send a paper check to anyone using Bill Pay for $1.00.

How much does it cost to use Bill Pay? [back to top]

Bill Pay service is available for only $0.88 per electronic payment and $1.00 per paper check.

What are Alerts? [back to top]

Alerts are a service offered by Amscot to allow you to be constantly aware of your card balance and usage. Sign up for Mobile Alerts to have notifications sent as text messages to your phone any time a transaction occurs, or to know immediately when a load is made available. Select a daily balance alert to receive your current balance each day. Or sign up for Email Alerts to have these notices sent to your registered email address.

Alerts can be sent to a mobile phone (via SMS text message) or to an e-mail address.

Amscot offers a variety of alert options for monitoring balance, transactions, loads, and bill pays. These alerts can be individually configured to be sent to your mobile phone (via SMS text message), your e-mail address, or both.

There is no charge to your card for Alerts. Check with your mobile service provider for any charges to receive text messages.
